Surprise Community

The City of Surprise is located northwest of downtown Phoenix. Why is it named Surprise? When it was founded in 1938 it was just one square mile of farmland. It’s founder stated “I’d be surprised if the town ever amounted to much”.  She certainly would be surprised to see how it has grown. According to the 2019 census, there is a population of 141,664.

The City of Surprise is in the Dysart Unified School District.  The district is home to 20 elementary schools and 4 high schools.  The Dysart School District is dedicated to serving the needs of all children with high quality academic coursework, before and after school programs, and services for the entire community.

Surprise is home to the largest tennis and racquet complex in the southwest, professionally designed golf courses, an urban fishing lake and aquatic center. Just west of Surprise is the White Tank Mountains where you will find approximately 30 miles of trails, ranging from easy to strenuous.

Spring training is a must in Surprise.  The Surprise Stadium is home to the Kansas City Royals and the Texas Rangers.  The stadium also hosts national high school, college baseball tournaments and events throughout the year.
